In the past, paths were scarce, but over time, various means of communication by land, water and air have been built, between municipalities, districts and countries.
In Aveiro communicating trails were created between some municipalities in the district. The Aveiro Municipality Intermunicipal Community inaugurated the Blue Route of the Grande Rota da Ria on October 27, 2020, a trail of more than 130km, which starts in Aveiro and extends to several neighboring counties. It is a very pleasant route and can be done by pedestrians or cyclists.
In Ílhavo, several footbridges, trails and roads were also created, mainly along the long coastline of the island. These paths pass through the Ria de Aveiro, the beaches of the municipality, and many other places. This project is appealing to society and a great option for leisure and exploration. The itinerary gives its pedestrians and cyclists the opportunity to get to know the nature surrounding the Baixo Vouga lagoon. In a variety of agricultural landscapes, pine forests, and coastal areas where water is the link.
The Intermunicipal Community of the Region of Aveiro involves 11 municipalities:
